Hiked with a partner

Forgot to post this until now!
The forecast called for rain which didn’t bother me, nor did it bother my brother who agreed to hike Mount Umunhum. We packed accordingly, but fully expected to get drenched. But when we got to the trailhead shortly after 7am the heavy clouds threatened, but the rain held back.
What a wonderful trail! Seriously, beautifully maintained and not particularly steep at any point, if this wasn’t so far from my home I’d hike it weekly! The rectangular radar station loomed on the summit above around nearly every turn reassuring us we were on the right track. It wasn’t until we crested the final stairs that the brunt of the weather let loose with gale-force wind driving rain sideways. We stayed on the summit long enough for a photo-op before finding shelter in the doorway of the radar building. It’s hard to get a scale of the thing when seeing it from below. My brother took a picture of me in a doorway from the summit. I’m 6 feet tall for perspective.

We donned our rain gear and headed back down only for the rain to abate as soon as we dropped below the summit. We wouldn’t see the rain again until we were dining on breakfast burritos inside a taqueria in San Jose.

Wonderful hike, wonderful companionship… just a great day all around – even the weather couldn’t tarnish it.
