I camped at the trailhead so that I could get started as soon as it got light out leaving from the Gold Lake Trailhead.  My  Garmin clocked me at about 11 miles roundtrip.  I didn't see one other person the only company was a cloud of mosquitoes buzzing above my head.  I loved the hike through the woods and then finally punching out on mountain top.
