Wowza views on this one and pretty much from the start. We arrived at the Encinoso picnic area at 6:45am The parking lot isn't that big so if you arrive much later you may need to park on the road – 89A. They do require a $5 red rock pass to park in the lot and can be purchased at the kiosk by the pit toilets. Pit toilets were disgusting – needed a serious cleaning – so hopefully you won't have to use them like me – my hiking partner gave me the low down on them. Trail is located on the north end of the parking lot – you will see a trail map then a small Trail 123 North Wilson sign and you will be good to go. Well marked trail from there. Trail was just a tad bit muddy due to all the recent monsoons – sticks definitely helped on the way up and especially on the way down to also help with the loose rocks. Lots of wildflowers and cool mushrooms (edible lobster!) and look for the painted heart shaped rock at the top.. Be sure to follow the Sedona overlook trail to get to the top where you can see Midgley bridge, Sedona, Sedona airport, Cathedral Rock, Jermone (look west and for J on Mtn), slide rock and Humphrey's Peak and much more. Bring binoculars and a snack for the top for sure! I will definitely be back!
