This was a tough one. Trekking over jagged rocks for 4 miles to the saddle via the canyon is no joke. The sounds of the stream towards the beginning against the darkness of the early morning, temporarily overshadows of what’s up ahead. Once passing the wooden brown bridge, there appears to be an endless climb through what seems to be satans joke for carved steps. Then come the switchbacks- burning calves in session. As you approach the saddle, don’t forget to turn around and admire the scenery and admire the “wtf did I just climb” accomplishment. Once at the saddle, take in the peacefulness of the leveled ground because you’re not done yet. The next 3 miles is what makes this peak all worth it. A steady gain leads you through this evergreen forest. A mixture of wet soil due to the moderate mist, with the scent of pine, sage, and scented shrubs dance in the air until the very top. Take it in, breathe it in. I know I did. Once at the peak, break open the congratulatory drink because it is well deserved.
