We had tried once before to tackle Sawmill but the snow and ice was still pretty heavy forcing us to turn back. June seemed like a good time of year and it was perfect. The exposed areas of the hike did get a bit hot overall it wasn’t too bad. The trail wasn’t very crowded at all. While Sawmill was the goal, we did plan to tackle all 3 peaks on this hike (Grouse, Sawmill and Pinos). The trail was in great shape and offered a challenge in both direction. While most hikes are an all up then an all down, this one is up and down the whole time being its 3 separate peaks. We enjoyed this aspect though. We also learned this would be a great backpacking trail with the numerous campgrounds we saw. We are looking forward to trying that next year. Overlall, this was a great trip and super fun hike!
