This hike was so hard, but so rewarding. The first part, up to the notch, was easy and fairly boring. Just walking a fire road. After the notch though, it takes a serious turn. It got really steep and then we reached Devil's Backbone. It's appropriately named for sure! I sometimes have problems with heights. I start to feel like I get vertigo and am falling. So, this part was pretty gnarly for me. Thanks to my lovely partner, I made it! It didn't get any easier after the ‘bone, and the mere thought of having to cross it again kept me moving forward. Once we were out of the tree line we were met with massive crosswinds the rest of the way, and then did the rock scramble to just below the summit. The views from the summit were spectacular, as advertised. The massive winds were still in full force, so it made it difficult to stay and enjoy ourselves. So we took our pics and headed back down. Decided to take the Baldy Bowl trail down, which was pretty steep, loose and technical the entire way. Very glad we did this one, but probably won't be rushing back to do it again anytime soon.
