Despite the sprinkling rain, we decided to go for it! So glad we did. As we drove up the Angeles Crest Highway, we rose above the clouds! We arrived at Red Box Canyon Picnic Area just before sunrise, and as the sun rose, we were treated to an ocean of clouds that turned all the surrounding peaks into islands! This kids loved it! I really was beautiful!
Our hike was pleasant. I bit cool starting out, but not as windy as we expected. Although this one was much shorter than our previous hikes, the steep parts still left me breathless and taking lot of short breaks. This kids faired much better and our youngest was the first to the summit! We had a picnic at the top, which included fresh strawberries, of course!! There was a group of older boy scouts there with us, so we shared our strawberries with them!
The journey down was full of amazing views, although the wind was a bit more gusty. Since we got up very early to reach the summit by sunrise (from San Diego), we were all feeling the fatigue on the way down! That last mile was tough on several of us, but we had warm noodle soup waiting for us at the car, and it was exactly what we needed! We drove back down into the rain on our way home. The kids slept the whole way!
