Great time of year to tackle this longer hike, if you are doing it in a day.
My return was via Jackass->Cougar-Springs single track trails which is a bit different than the SoCal website version. A nice alternative to Poverty Road. 16.5mi, 7 1/2 hours total, including breaks, for me. Ends mostly flat if you go clockwise, which is a godsend after completing Mt. Rose recently.
