This hike starts easy enough but gradually gets steeper within a half mile. You’ll achieve 1,000 ft of elevation gain in the second mile. At the 2-mile mark the single track trail meets the access road and from there to the top it’s a more gradual climb. The upper half of the access road is mostly snow-covered but it’s crunchy and if your trail runners / hiking shoes have good traction you should be OK, so no microspikes are needed. The air was so clear and views from the summit were amazing. To the North you could see the sharp outline of snow-capped Mt San Jacinto and the entire San Bernardino Mountain range, which includes Mt San Gorgonio. A little to the northwest Cucamonga Peak is also clearly visible. Beautiful cold sunny day and did not see even 10 people the entire hike.

Peak #1 in my quest for the San Diego #SixPackofPeaks Challenge.
