I had been watching the weather the past few weeks hoping to get a good day, but of all the mountains in the challenge Washington is unpredictable. This time of year isn't getting any warmer either.
Today was humid and low 60's when I hit the trail head at 7am. When I got to the Lake of the Clouds Hut I was disappointed to see that it was closed for the season, but, never the less you continue on. It took me 4 hours and 15 minutes to reach the summit, I couldn't see a dam thing it was so socked in at the top. The air had a touch of humidity that kept if from feeling cold; however, the wind was blowing pretty strong. After about a half hour break that included a cider donut and cup of coffee I descended down the Jewel Trail. It took 4 hours and 45 minutes to reach my vehicle.
I felt a good sense of accomplishment today. In the end I can say that Katahdin was the hardest hike and Lincoln was my favorite.
