- This is the 2nd time I've hiked this trail. This time, it hurt lol 😆 I forgot how the gradual steepness creeps up on you. It was chilly and windy which made for uncomfortable breathing at altitude.
Don't get me wrong it was a wonderful hike but man if you're out of hiking shape it WILL kick you in the a**!
The trail is really a fire road and in the beginning it can be a drag trudging through sand and rock. The views do not disappoint throughout this hike. When you reach the summit, look out for the ammo canister. It will contain a register for you to write in. Views for literally miles. There was noone manning the fire tower and I had the summit to myself on a Saturday!
I suggest wearing gaiters unless you want sand pouring out of your shoes. Dress for the weather. Sunscreen even if it is cool outside.
I carried 3L h2o which is my norm. Snacks or sandwich is a must as you will expend a ton of energy/calories. Don't forget electrolytes. Have fun!!
