Today 5/13 was an excellent day to hike Mission Peak. A group of 12 hikers summited Mission Peak and Monument Peak on this glorious day. A total milage of 11.76 was in about 4:30 and gained 2841 in elevation was completed. This hike was also the completion of the Bay Area Sixpack of Peaks challenge for me. I hiked all 9 peaks of the 6-peak challenge Mt. Tamalpais, Mt. Umunhum, Mt. Diablo, Mt. Sizer, Rose Peak, Mt. St. Helena, and bonus peaks Berryessa, Black Mtn, and Mission. I cannot thank enough all those who joined me on my journey.
The group started out at about 8:15am from the Ohlone College Mission Peak trail and took it all the way up to the top. It was a cool morning with a light breeze, but it warmed up nicely as the day went on.
The trail was busy with many others going up to the peak and we were on a quick pace. May pictures were being taken and stories shared. The grass was just beginning to turn brown, and the flowers were abundant. We passed a few cows on the way up, but the trail was dry.
By 930am hit the peak and took a few celebration pictures on the iconic Mission Peak marker. There were a fair number of others there, but it was not too crowded. Then we went off to Monument Peak. The original plan was to also hike Allison Peak but when we got to the turn off there were signed posted no trespassing and private property. So, we were cheated out of 1.5 miles but what can you do?
We hit Monument Peak at about 1030am. There we took more pictures and had lunch. Then back the exact way we came. The breeze was still blowing and when we reached Mission Peak the crowds had grown.
As we were descending there were still people coming up to Mission. The weather was getting warmer, and the breeze was dissipating. We made it back to the trail head at about 1pm.
It was a great day to hike to Mission and Monument Peaks. Thanks to all who hiked today! I have posted all the pictures and videos of my hike to this page. Also, there is a link to the All-Trails route we took. If you would like to ask more questions about my hikes, please feel free to message me and I will share all my info.
