A Monday in the mountains is better than any Monday at work. We’ve been blessed with such warm weather I can’t believe it’s the middle of January already.

Left Icehouse Canyon trailhead early this morning to beat the crowds headed to Icehouse Saddle. There were a couple of places before the saddle that had a bit of snow/ice but it wasn’t bad.

Leaving the saddle and heading up towards Cucamonga Peak it was pretty much the same with a few spots of melted snow that refroze over night on the trail. After the second saddle though the trail was pretty much covered in snow/ice all the way up. I didn’t use micro spikes today but if you’ve got them bring them for peace of mind.

Once at the peak I snapped a few photos and had lunch but the views were EPIC today. Not only could you see Los Angeles to the Northwest but you could see in all directions over San Jacinto and San Gorgonio our to Catalina Island.

What a great way to start this week in the Mountains and not at work.!

  1. It was wonderful up there! Such a different experience than when I hiked in the summer. I’m glad you had the chance to enjoy it too. I think I took the same pic of the ladybugs
