Entrance to parking area was mostly dried mud with very large ruts. Recommend high clearance/AWD.
Weather was perfect. Sunny and mild temps in the 60s. Wildflowers in bloom.
I hiked with a partner so it was nice that the trail was wide enough most of the way to hike side by side. Once we were just below the ridge, it was a little difficult to tell when to get off the trail and head up to the “peak”, but with some ambling, we found it easy enough. I would recommend caution when getting off the trail as a fellow hiker had seen a rattlesnake on the ridge line. We apparently passed near it without seeing or hearing it. We only met 3 individuals at the top, two of which were doing the challenge. It was nice to rest in the mild breeze, take some pics, and watch a hawk soaring over looking for lunch. Highly recommend Tiger Town Brewing in Mitchell for a post hike lunch and beer(Sutton Mountain Expedition IPA).
