Upon arrival at Icehouse Canyon at 7:30 AM, the weather was chilly despite the sunshine but it did get warmer as we began to hike. The trail to Cucamonga Peak is well maintained and beautiful, following a clear creek with lots of shade in earlier segments. I did not pace myself for the first half of the hike and already felt exhausted halfway through with more than 2 miles left to the peak. The next part of the hike past the Ice House Saddle was more arduous with a steeper slope, less cover, and minor obstacles such as patches of snow and ice. Reaching the peak felt like a huge relief but I was so tired and desperate not to walk back down that I considered purposefully injuring myself so that I would required an airlift. Fortunately, I decided against that and managed to take the easier trip down without much trouble except the increase in the feeling of wanting to die for every step I took. Overall, Cucamonga Peak is a great hike to take during warmer months and you may also spot some stunning waterfalls along the way.
