After the storms, the sun comes out .. and melts all of the ice, or at least most of it. To be honest, of all of the hikes I have been on since my accident, this one was going to be the real test. And I was nervous.
Overall the trail was in good condition, of course most of the snow has melted away and the few fields of snow that are still on the mountain were either 1)off trail or 2) in an area that was easy and safe to traverse without any specialized gear. There were lots of people on the trail which made me feel safe and the group I was with was well prepared.
I did meet a local celebrity on the trail, a 72 year old man known as Ranger Dan!
In some ways I know that I am ready to go back to hiking regularly but I am also weary of falling a breaking my skin grafts. Oh yeah, and now that summer is in full swing, I am hiking in long pants, long sleeved-shirts and gloves. I am going to be super sweaty, but those were the rules I got from my doctor so I must comply.
