I drove up to Kendrick Mountain Trailhead after work on Friday.  The 4th of July weekend traffic was pretty terrible going up the I-17 but that was no surprise.  I arrived at the trailhead at about 3pm.  I brought a full pack with the tentative plan to camp on the way up the mountain and then summit the next morning.  The weekend was forecast to be very hot and it was pretty warm at the trailhead on Friday afternoon.  I brought 5 liters of water but my pack was too heavy with all that so I opted to do the hike with 2 liters in my pack.  I started climbing seeking the cooler weather and just kept going until I reached the top 3 hours later.  What a beautiful hike!  Lots of great views and vegetation in this area!  I loved it!  I made it all the way to the top and still had a full 2 liters of water, grateful that I hydrated well on the drive up.  I had the top of the mountain all to myself after the young lady who I had been leapfrogging back and forth up the mountain with departed.  When I first saw her on the way up, she was chasing a butterfly around and it was cool to see someone just enjoying the forest.  It was just her and her dog and at the top she said she needed to hurry down the mountain since she had no light and there was only two hours left in the day.  I was grateful to be prepared to stay and I set up my tent right on the helipad at the top.  I took some great sunset photos and enjoyed the surrounding views.  Humphreys looked awesome!  At night you can see the lights of Page, Sedona and Flagstaff.  It was a nice cool evening above 10,000ft.  There was good phone reception up there so I could talk and text easily.  There is just no water up there at all so you have to bring it with you.  I got up early on Saturday morning and enjoyed the sunrise.  I goofed around a little by the cabin and hiked back down starting at about 7am.  By 9:30, I was back at my truck and I drove back home.  So glad I experienced the mountain like that, it was incredibly peaceful.
