I decided to do this hike on a day off from work, with awareness of my route but without much knowledge of the other trails up in the San Gabriels. Made the summit in 3.5 hours, then got a little mixed up coming down and took the wrong trail at the bench and hitched a ride back to my car with some friendly hikers in Sierra Madre. I noticed that many of the trails are labelled at one end but not the other, which is inconvenient for folks doing the loop. But hikers are wonderful and friendly and everything worked out okay. Post-hike meal: in-n-out and good conversation with friends 🙂
