Captain's Log:

Day 1.

We arrived to the trail at 6:15 AM. There was no one else in the parking lot, but we surprised to encounter a group of 6 trail runners returning from the summit as we started the hike. It was a clear, cool morning. The sun had just risen as we started and the views of the surrounding mountains and valleys were unobstructed by fog or clouds. The trail was very easy to follow and it was a gradual climb in elevation over the 3.7 miles up to the peak. There was not any steep inclines encountered on the switch backs. There were a couple flocks of wild turkeys and deer on the drive up the road, and some quail and other small birds on the trail.

Within a quarter mile of the summit we were enlightened by The Cube. Its magnificence had radiated out to us since the start of the hike, even if we couldn't see it from the trail head. It spoke whispers of glory and eternal knowledge as we hiked the trail and upon reaching the summit we were rewarded with being able to bask in its reassuring angles. We are forever changed men because of it. Praise unto The Cube.

Around returning to the mortal coil and getting back to the parking lot around 9:30 it was mostly full, with only two or three parking spaces still open.
