The Maiden Peak trail was a nice, steady uphill trail with big payoffs in terms of views. The mosquitos were pretty terrible for both me and my dog despite using bug spray. The trail through the trees was beautiful and still lush green. There were just a few huckleberries starting to ripen near the only water crossing and sporadic wildflowers throughout the hike. The trail was a little more populated than a lot of reviews indicated, but still much quieter than many other options near by. This was my year old dogs first big hike and she did fabulous and loved it. There is a lot of broken glass and rusty nails at the actual summit, so we were quick to take a few photos and then move over to another side of the ridge for lunch.
