So there we were, all piled into my truck, carpooling like good little hikers we are following blindly listening to the lovely British voice guiding us on our way to our meeting place with the other half of our group. We message that we are on Camel Humps road and will meet them shortly.

Narrator: But they would not meet with them shortly.

Fun fact, for those of you who have never been this particular mountain, there is a Camels Hump road on BOTH side of the mountain in two DIFFERENT towns. ( insert annoyed face here ) The GPS giveth and the GPS taketh away. After finding the rare and elusive prime parking spot in the shade and last one available in the top parking lot area, we realized that the other half of our group is not where they said they would be.  Realizing the situation, we decide to make the ultimate sacrifice and head back down the road in search of cell service.  After a couple of miles the bars magically reappeared; messages are sent and the digital archives of knowledge was consulted; and that was the moment were we knew we messed up.

As we sit on the side of the road weighing our options, we make the executive decision to hike the Burrows Trail instead of backtracking and driving all the way around to the other side of the mountain. Back up we go, fingers crossed that the parking god's will smile upon us once more. As we approach the parking lot area, we find a line of cars parked along side the road, thus turning the road into a single lane.  Wanting to check the parking lot to see if any morning hikers had left while we were gone, I started up the road.  When I was almost to the top ( 3 cars left to go ) a vehicle from the top parking lot decided they wanted to come down the road. So here we were; at a stand off. The only place I can go is back ward about 200 yards before I can pull off and let the car go or the car coming toward me could back up 20 feet into a pull of spot.

As one might have guessed,  the car coming toward me decided to stop in the middle of the road and just sat there, not moving. After a minute stand off, I realize that they aren't going to do the polite thing and I back down the road 200 yards and pull off.  By now it's about an hour or so after we wanted to be on the trail, so I managed to find a parking spot in the top lot and we head out. Once we put the ridiculousness of the mornings events in the back of our minds, the rest of the day went by easy peasy.

The trail itself was quite popular and there was a lot of hiker traffic.  The weather and views were absolutely beautiful and ironically enough we met the other half of our group at the summit!  My favorite part was the ridge walk, the view is just breathtaking.

Highly recommend this hike; although make sure you know which side of the mountain your aiming for and double check that your GPS is directing you to the correct location!
