A number of years ago, it was Humphreys Pk. that really sparked my interest in hiking, and every return trip is an emotional experience, particularly when shared with family members and friends. Today was a solo trip, but emotional nonetheless, with a flood of memories coming back at numerous points along the trail. It’s difficult to find the words to do justice to the magnificence of Humphreys Pk., and the traverse along the final ridge to the summit is nothing short of breathtaking, which has as much to do with the views as the fact that you’re traveling above 12,000 feet.
It was a glorious day, with starting temperatures in the 50s and an intermittent breeze that kept conditions comfortable. There was no snow. The trail and road were in good condition, with just a few insects to contend with at the top.
