Yesterday, I conquered  Mount Sizer, an adventure that tested the limits of my old legs.  It wasn't my favorite hike, but it provided a fantastic challenge and served as an excellent prep hike  for my rim-to-rim hike planned for next year.

I started the hike at 7:00 am the temp was approximately 46 degrees, and by the time I finished at about 2:30 pm, the temperature was in the low-80s.  The most challenging part of the hike was the 1500-foot climb up to Blue Ridge, but I paced myself and conquered it.

On the way back and during my ascent up Poverty Flat Road, a friendly park ranger drove by and checked on me. She asked if I needed water, which I didn’t and  offered both encouragement and a valuable tip to take the Forest Trail instead of Manzanita Point Road. That 1.2-mile shaded path made it easy on my tired legs and made the end of the hike more enjoyable, leading me to the corral Trail and back to the park headquarters.

Next time, I'll attempt the loop counterclockwise to see if it offers a different perspective. Thanks to the park ranger's tip and the satisfying challenges of the hike, I left Mount Sizer with a sense of accomplishment and looking forward to my last peak of the six peak challenge. Rose Peak, I will see you soon!

  1. Sounds like you had a great hike. Did you complete the14 mile hike by 2pm? Were you the only one on the trail? I’m planning on doing it next weekend. Then all I have left is the Mount Rose Peak. Maybe we can do it together as a back packing hike?

    1. Hello Esteban,

I’m sorry I some how missed your message and I had not been in the app until now. I saw that you completed Rose Peak already and I completed the hike this past weekend as a one day solo backpacking trip. I would have love some company. Oh well maybe next time.
