After my return from my Mt. Fuji adventure, I decided to finish the challenge with this Peak. I had originally thought of hiking Gorgonio to train for Mt. Fuji but as it turned out I hiked Fuji-san before this mountain so this hike turned out to be a homecoming hike after Fuji-san.
This was a relatively late start at around 8:30 AM. However there was plenty of parking at the South Fork trailhead. The weather was nice. Rangers were out today & I showed them my permit. There was also a trail crew working to clear some of the downed trees from the trail. Took the route along Dry Lake on the ascent. The water was flowing on some of the creeks. On the switchbacks parts of the trail with rocks seemed to be gnarly due to the previous week’s storm. But they were passable although I didn’t plan to go down the same way. Not too many people at the summit. Took my pictures, rested, then headed down the Divide Trail to Dollar Lake Saddle for the descent back to South Fork. There were several downed trees which slowed me somewhat but posed no major obstacle. The sun had set before I got back to the trail junction for Dry Lake but as I had my headlight it simply meant night hiking the rest of the way. Got back to my car without incident.
