Izzy’s First Hike

What a beautiful hike!  My wife Magda and I took our two dogs Erma (8yr old hound mix) and Izzy (5mo old terrier mix) out to Julian for a quick day hike up Volcan mountain and we were not disappointed.  It was very easy to park at the trailhead.  The climb up got our heart rates up but wasn’t too challenging.  The trail was as easy to follow as they come and very well maintained.  We took our time and watered the dogs frequently as we kept an eye on how our young pup was acclimating to her first hike.  She had a blast!  We took the main trail up and then cut down the five oaks trail on the way back.  Five Oaks Trail is worth the minimal extra distance and elevation.  It has even more beautiful views and feels like a proper single track hiking trail.  It is a bit rocky and arguably more challenging.
