Started the hike on the first tram up at 8 AM. Security at the tramway is a pain. They thouroughly check your bags. Bear Spray and Firearms were definite no go's. I'm sure knives are also, they just didn't specifically ask about that. We were there really early, so the security check didn't affect us. But I can see it backing up the more busy it gets. So plan accordingly.
First stop is Ranger station check in. Fill out the forms. They also have a mailbox that you return the copy of your permit after you finish the hike.
Weather wise, it was a brisk cold day. Probably in the 40-50's, where it was in the mid 80's in Palm Springs. Peak has a bit of wind, and very cold in the 30's.
Trail is in great condition. It was a beautiful day for a hike.
There is ice beginning to form in the creeks. So I'm sure this weeks storms is going to bring snow or worse, ice onto the mountain. So make sure you are prepared.
