This hike is relatively easy for the most part until you get to the last mile and a half or so. The beginning of the trail can definitely be done as a trail run if you're into that sort of thing. Once you get to the sandy part/rocky park, it starts getting a bit more challenging. Overall a fun hike day with friends. Hot for December though!
