My cousin and son (six) got a little late start, so we anticipated chasing the sun later on. This was the longest hike we have done and the first peak we have ever ascended, so I didn’t know what to expect. Needless to say, it was a challenge. But we never gave up, as my son was singing, “Littlefoot Adventure Club never gives up!”

The trail was fun though. My son loves a trail that includes rock climbing and/or water crossings. Long sleeves and pants are definitely recommended since you will be brushing up against bushes. Trekking poles are also recommended because of the ascent. I had a hiking stick which definitely helped me.

Once we reached the peak, the view was amazing. While we were worried about the sun going down before we got done, it should made for picturesque view at the top. I was so proud of my son for making it as well. Standing and the top looking out over San Diego and Mexico, I told him, “I’m so proud of you.” He responded, “I’m proud of me too.”

After our short rest at the peak taking in the views and appreciating it all, the goal down the mountain, move quickly. The last 1.5 miles, I didn’t put my son on my shoulders just to move faster. It was practically pitch black the last 800 yards and we were the last car there. Needless to say it was adventure, true to our Littlefoot Adventure Club. 🧡
