Got to the trailhead at around 9am and couldn't find parking at the original trailhead. We had to park at the summit and do a reverse hike down and then back up. Probably should try to come in early morning or mid afternoon.
Driving up can be a challenge as it's quite steep and with a lot of curves. This road is well known by the hooligans, so you'll probably encounter a driver having too much fun. Be careful and pull over to the curb when you see them!
Weather is great with a decent amount of people hiking it. Encounter some mountain bikers on the way up, but not too many. Hiked with a friend as we decided to do this pretty last minute.
This hike is one of the better trails in the bay area as it checks a lot of boxes:
- Short distance (~3.7 miles one way uphill / ~7.5 miles round trip)
- Moderate elevation, not miserable for beginners but also not boring for experienced hikers
- Mostly shaded
- Scenic viewpoints of both bay area and city
- Good point of interest at the summit
It's one of the hidden gems in the bay area and rightfully should be the defacto hike for South Bay locals.
