What a tough hike. It’s absolutely gorgeous but a total battle of an uphill climb. This hike reminds me of Piestawa in Phoenix, but 3 times the length. The hike begins winding its way through lush high desert terrain. The yuccas are in bloom and offer a fragrant backdrop to the journey. After leaving the steadily increasing incline, you enter the pines. Then, after many switchbacks and gorgeous views the last bit of the trek takes you into young aspens. The views are stunning throughout the journey and Mt. Humphreys stands as a sentinel to the North. A friendly reminder of what’s to come in this challenge
