Started at Laura, which is a MASSIVE steep and unnecessary .6 miles to start (tried to start at rhus, but no parking available ). The hike up was fine, a good fair mix of shade and exposure. Pretty steep in places, I'd for sure use poles if I were to do it again. Had to ration my water, so once I made it to the summit, went the .5 miles to the backpacking camp and soaked myself in the spigot there to cool down. (Non potable, so bring a filter!). The way down seemed too boring, so I made a loop by taking Quary trail to Upper high meadow to upper rogue valley to the connector to Chamise. MUCH better than a simple out and back in my opinion. (I'll pretty much hike as far as necessary to avoid an out and back!). If I'd have had a purification system, this hike would have been much better, because rationing water on a hot day isn't fun. Hanging out at the camp was though, and even though the peak is pretty lame and uneventful (no cool Lookout, etc) the views are good, and this is a pretty ok hike.
