Hiked to Maggies Peak via Bayview trail head where there is now a $10 parking fee.  At the TH you need to self register for free Desolation Wilderness permit.  The views at the top are lovely, well worth the effort to get there.  As of today there is still a couple of large patches of snow prior to the final climb up to the peak.  People were either crossing on the snow or scrambling around them.  I did a scramble but can’t say I enjoyed it.  I decided to take the Eagle Lake trail back, that trail had some wet areas, but all snow patches could be easily avoided.  If you are planning on hiking to Maggies, doing and out and back from the Eagle Lake TH would be an alternative to the snow/scramble.  It does make the hike about extra three miles or roughly seven miles total.  Alternately you could wait as trail conditions will likely improve over the next couple of weeks.
