This was the third hike of my 2024 challenge and another repeat.  We started around a similar time but could feel the heat early.  Despite the recent deaths on this mountain (seven since 2020 including the actor Julian Sands), this is a favorite of mine.  We went the popular Manker Flats, Devil’s Backbone, Baldy Bowl Trail route that I’ve done before. I couldn’t help think about Julian Sands as we traversed the Devil’s Backbone since it was almost a year to the day (June 24th, 2023) since his remains were found.  There are some amazing views all around this hike.  One of my favorites is the ability to see I-15 to Las Vegas via Cajon Pass.  Incredible!  The final stretch felt like the crowded 405 and the summit was busier than Times Square but it was all worth it.  I’d love to do this hike again since it isn’t very difficult in my opinion.  A winter hike (with the proper equipment) is on my list.  Rest in piece to all of the hikers that lost their lives on this mountain.
