This is my third hike up Mt Umunhum. It’s always a great hike. I always start at Woods trail @ Hicks rd. It’s double the length but beautiful.
The first two miles on Woods Trail are easy, shaded fire road. Then you hit (Brutul) Barlow rd. Very step inclines/declines with loose gravel base. Mostly in the sun. Next you join Mt Umunhum trail for the next four miles. It’s most switchbacks all the way, mostly shaded with some interesting interest points such as the Guadalupe Creek Overlook and Lady of The Mountain’s house (in ruins) from last century. The views from the summit are amazing. Today was clear so I could see the full Bay Area and Ocean on the opposite side. The trip down is always much faster than going up 😎
