I made a wrong turn at the beginning of the hike, taking the left at Baldy Bowl. That means I reached the peak in 4.3 miles rather than the more gentle slope going up the fire road to the notch. Definitely didn’t intend to make it harder on myself! But now that I’ve done it, I think that was the better route: going up ski Hut/Baldy Bowl and coming down Devils Backbone. It was so pretty and the temp was cool. It was a great way to beat the heat. It was downright cold at the top, probably in the 40s or 50s, plus the wind was crazy. I wore a base layer and wool top, then a windbreaker at the top. Definitely remember to pack layers for the summit!
