I never really liked the Baldy hike until I did it in the snow! It was absolutely gorgeous! I highly recommend trying it (via the bowl, not the backbone!).
Unable to get my AWD SUV up to the trailhead without chains, we parked about a mile down the road and hopped in with a friendly hiker who was hooking his chains on. Savior!
My friend and I are new to snow hikes so we took our time and soaked everything in. It took 2.5 hours to get to the ski hut, where we dropped our overnight packs and continued up to the summit with far less weight.
Along the descent back to the hut, we had fun butt sledding down and playing in the snow. I felt like a child again! Once back at the hut, the party quickly picked up with food and drink, dancing and singing, laughing and laughing laughing. What an incredible experience! I will be going back soon with my snowboard for some backcountry shredding!!!
