What a beautiful secluded trail with no one in sight today until our last mile descending. Lots of bugs- highly recommend a net & triple spray yourself. Big open sandy portions to switchbacks with a couple of miles ascent at the beginning. Run or jog as much as you can to save time to enjoy the summit and water tower views. Last time, we encountered lots of wind in the water tower but today was stunning peaceful and fun. This happens to be a similar route to upcoming SoCA Ragnar trail so very good training ground. We had help climbing up the giant boulder to the top last time but no one was around today. Will need extra boost if you are not accustomed to pulling a rope or climb to truly summit. Caution ⛔️ climbing up if it's too windy or slippery. Highly recommend checking out the Eagle Rock Trail nearby as an add on if you want to experience the open Pacific Crest Trail beauty. Lots of wild turkeys, cows and completely different vegetation from Hot Springs. Btw, bathrooms were closed all day and you need cash only to pay at the stations.
