Long steady climb. Fires have really gutted the scenery; the vast majority of the trail is burned forest much of which is still trying to recover. Not a whole lot of shade along the way so bring the sunscreen. Assuming you have a filter there is one place to get water about 6 miles in.  While this is one of the longest hikes of the challenge it didn't feel as challenging as some of the others…however because of the fire damages it's also one of the least scenic. With that being said, a day on the trail is still better than a day on the concrete.
