Got there around 7:30 and there was only one other car in the lot. It was clear and brisk but not too cold. Trail was nice – after about half a mile it turned into rocks and roots, but it turned to fire road pretty quickly. There’s no tree cover along the fire road so it was good the weather was cool. We saw a few rock climbers going up as well.
Windy and cold at the top, but we had sunshine so it was manageable with an extra layer. The view was gorgeous and well worth it! The way down wasn’t terribly steep but it was slippery with the gravel and sand over rock.
This was our last hike of the pack and we’re glad we saved it for last because it was fairly manageable compared to our longest ones. We enjoyed a celebratory lunch in Calistoga after this one, which was a great reward after our 6 summits.
