For those who have not taken this hike before, it is very challenging and well worth the effort. On clear, cool days such as today, the hike to Camelback Mountain summit is a treat. the views from the summit are fantastic. Camelback is the tallest peak in the Phoenix Mountains, and you will have an unobstructed 360º view from the top. Climbing from the Echo Canyon Trailhead, there is a decent amount of parking and restroom facilities near the upper lot. The trail gains elevation quickly, but is relatively smooth for the first 1/3 of a mile, up to Bob’s Rock. After that you will soon arrive at the hand rail section. Next will be a very steep and rocky portion of the trail which brings you to the summit. I recommend gloves at any time of the year because there are numerous areas where it is nice to grab onto rocks in the trail, or along the side.
