In the morning, at approximately 5;30am, the weather was nice but as the day progressed the weather got unbearably hotter. The hike to Mt. Baden-Powell was very nice, we as a troop arrived earlier than the expected time of arrival, and we were all very excited. But as we went down the guiding parent decided on going on a ‘short-cut' that was taken years before. That shortcut ended up leading us lost, and than adding an extra 5 miles to our hike. When we were lost some kids had their backpacking backpacks as they were training for a 7-day backpacking trip, they began setting up their sleeping pad as they accepted the fact that we were lost and were thoroughly ready to sleep the night. Fortunately, that did not happen and we continued walking until we came upon a road. We ended finally reaching ground level via Dawson Saddle Trail. We had to road-hike to the parking lot, which was about 4 miles away. By this point everyone had exhausted their supply of food, water, and patience. Through sheer grit, determination, and pettiness, we walked nonstop for four miles through scorching heat. I remember every time I attempted on putting on sunscreen, I would sweat it off as soon as it met my face. The entire time my face was drenched in sweat, if someone looked at me they would think I had just gotten out of a swimming pool. The same was for all my other troop members, if not worse. While we were walking at some point it wasn't hiking, it was just my legs moving. When we finally laid eyes upon the parking lot, one of my troop members somehow gathered the strength to run to the parking lot. By the end of the hike, everyone had a scorching, pettiness, and hatred towards the guiding parent (including other parents). We expected to make it home an hour or two earlier, but we ended up going home three hours later than the expected time.
