I arrived at the trailhead around 6am got ready and headed off at 630am. The trail begins with steep switchbacks. After a few miles it levels off a bit. The sun came out for a couple hours but then the clouds came. The trail had patches of snow but it was easy to pass. The trail begins to go steep again. By the time I got to the Washington Monument it was very cloudy and misty. I saw about 3 hikers on my way up. I reached the peak around 1pm. The cloud and mist didn't allow for peak views however I still enjoyed being at the summit. I rested for about half an hour and started to head back. The wind and a bit of rain started to pick up. I knew sunset was going to be around 430 so I rushed down the trail. I saw about 4 hikers on the way down. The way down was much easier, however alot of the snow patches became slush, so I got a bit messy, luckily I had my gaiters. I arrived back to my vehicle around 5pm. It was an amazing experience. I would love to summit again on a clear day.
