It was a great day to be out on the trails in Sunol on Saturday March 1st. A strong group of Bay Area Hikers took on Rose Peak to complete two hiking challenges, Ocean to Summit and 6 Peaks Challenge.
We knew it was going to be a good day when the gates to the park were open early and there was no parking fee.
We began promptly at 820am and had a good pace going. The group was at least 20+ hikers with all abilities.
The weather was clear and cool but as we gained elevation we warmed up quickly.
The trails for the most part were green and lush. There were few cows in the pastures but we saw a herd of wild pigs roaming the hills at times.
All along the trail many pictures were being taken and company enjoyed.
The majority reached the peak at about 12pm. There were a few faster hikers from our group already on the way down.
We took a quick break at the top because the wind was picking up and there was a chill in the air developing.
As we descended back down clouds were rolling in and the temp was dropping. Still the group was enjoying time being outside.
The group did spread out over the trail and finished at various times.
My group finished at about 330pm back at the trailhead.
In total we hiked 17.70 miles, gained over 4551 in elevation, in about 7 hours.
