Hiked with a group

Our group met bright and early at 7:30 am for this hike. It starts pretty flat and there are several water crossings, but they were easy to do without getting your shoes wet. Since it just rained Monday, it was pretty muddy in some spots (though a lot of it had dried on the way back in the afternoon). The ankle high grass and mud are what actually got my shoes wet, though they weren’t too bad. I did bring extra socks, but didn’t feel I needed them; however one of our group did switch out their wet socks to dry ones at the peak.

The trail is definitely overgrown through several sections. You do have to pay attention to make sure you’re actually following the trail. Also I fully hit my head running into a branch so watch out for that as some overgrown sections are high plants/trees.

As you get towards the peak, you go over some rocks that are slick, so poles can be helpful here as well as other sections. A few of us – including me – may have slipped in this section. Also there is a section with a landslide, but we were able to cross it carefully.

No parking lot at the trail, but we parked on the side of the road without issue. There are also no bathrooms, but we did pass a few bathrooms along the lake on our way there. Be aware there are no gas stations (as far as I saw anyway) near the lake, so make sure you have enough gas before you get to the lake.

We had beautiful wildflowers yesterday as well as great views of the lake. Overall a fun day of hiking with a fun group!
