Decided to tackle this as an overnight backpacking trip. Started Tuesday afternoon at Chantry Flat and camped overnight at Spruce Grove Campground on Sturtevant trail/Gabrielino trail. To my surprise, the light drizzle through the canyon turned into consistent rain until about 4am. I then hiked up to Mt. Wilson and back down Wednesday. That elevation gain was brutal. Saw a large brown black bear laying right off trail at around 4500 feet and we stared at each other for a few seconds before it got up and moved away. Another hiker told me they saw a bobcat on trail. Really cool to see so much wildlife around.
