Rocky Road

We chose to tackle Elden as the weather had been unusually cool. Thanks to the recent rains some of the wildflowers had begun to bloom, which added some nice patches of color along the trail.

The trail itself starts as part of the Fatman’s Loop, which is a pleasant and not too challenging hike. Once the trail leaves the loop though… It’s just up, up, up! And the trail is rocky and uneven. We saw a few trail runners and I don’t know how they keep that pace on this trail!

The views along the way are tremendous, and even better at the summit. There are quite a few radio towers at the top, as well as the historic fire watch tower.
