Some Fat Old Guy On Cucamonga
I got to the trailhead early to snag a spot and set off in the dark for Cucamonga Peak. I thought I might add Etiwanda, but that ambition faded as the morning progressed. It was a beautiful morning and the trail wasn’t too crowded. Yet. I made decent time, for a fat old guy, everyone passed me, but I wasn’t displeased with the time to get to the summit. I hung out up top for a while talking about hikes and swapping stories and lies. Ran into a couple of people that I knew. I headed down to Big Horn Saddle with Sable who was knocking out ECBO as training for her upcoming first Whitney hike. I am confident that Whitney will be a cake walk for her. I met a couple of young guys near the old mine on the way back to the saddle and had a pleasant conversation and they gently tried to convert me, or at least reinvigorate my faith. I ran into them again at Columbine and continued down the trail to the parking lot while they earnestly tried to ensure my salvation. They weren’t pests and the conversation made the trip through the canyon bottom go quicker. All in all a good day in the mountains.
