We hiked Mt Washington as part of a 3 day/2 night Presidential Traverse.
Day 1: Valley Way -> Madison Hut. Valley Way is one of the most beautiful forest trails I’ve hiked. The day was very humid, which made a not-too-bad hike a serious struggle. We had hoped to summit Madison that evening, but a storm was rolling in.
Day 2: Madison Hut -> Lakes of the Clouds Hut via the Gulfside Trail, Trinity Heights Connector, and Crawford Path. The weather was bad in the morning, with rain and high winds, so we stayed on the Gulfside Trail and opted not to summit Adams & Jefferson. The winds stayed high all day, but the rain & clouds cleared leading to spectacular views along the ridge line. Our pace was slow, gifting us with an unplanned but gorgeous sunset as we descended Mt. Washington.
Day 3: Lakes of the Clouds Hut -> Crawford Notch via Crawford Path, Monroe Loop, Eisenhower Loop, and Webster Cliff Trails. A top 10 bluebird day that included summits of Monroe, Eisenhower, and Pierce.
This was an amazing adventure, inspired by the Mt. Washington hike for this challenge. It was very hard, definitely type 2 fun – but the feeling of having accomplished it is indescribable.
