Last of the Summer Sunshine: Santa Fe Baldy
Also on this hike
After the previous day’s experience of late morning clouds rolling in over Lake Peak, I was determined to summit Baldy in the sunshine forecast. It’s a long walk-in before even reaching the start of the ridge climb, and then the real fun begins: stopping every six or seven steps to catch my breath, thanks to the altitude and steep ascent. I’m reminded of the phrase, “Always a Little Further” when the climb refuses to give up. In contrast to the previous day, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky all day. More spectacular views from the summit, looking back to Lake Peak and down to Lake Katherine. Met a few other climbers determined to make the best of the super weather before rain is forecast to return over the weekend. Now in Taos, and needing a rest day, I have some decisions to make.
