We had perfect bluebird skies for our hike today, though 38 degrees a summit. Unfortunately, early birds that we are, we got there before the lower gate opened, and what was supposed to be a 7 mile hike with 1000’ gain turned into a 11 1/2 mile hike with 2000 feet of elevation gain. Thought we’d start with the easiest peak of the 6, but definitely got a work out. (Note: they opened the lower gate, at Hicks Road, at 9 AM on the dot, so other folks were able to drive up to the usual starting point.)
This is my first time doing this hike. The trail was marvelously built, a true pleasure to hike.
